Almost nobody wants help getting into the shower. It is the piece of care people refuse the longest, and usually not because it is difficult. It is because of who is offering. A son helping his mother wash changes something between them. A caregiver does not.

Where this stops
Bathing, dressing, grooming and toileting are personal care. We do not do catheters, wounds or injections, and a caregiver reminds about medication rather than giving it. If a hospital discharge sheet asks for any of that, the person you need is a home health nurse and we will tell you so.

What changes the cost of personal care
With personal care the number of visits usually matters more than the length of them. Two visits a day, morning and bedtime, often work better than one long afternoon. What changes your cost is how many hours that adds up to across a week, how many transfers are involved, and whether one caregiver can do the job safely on their own.

Do you give medication?
No. Guiding Souls Home Care is a non-medical agency, so caregivers give reminders and can bring the pillbox, but they do not administer medication. If your family needs medication administered, we will tell you who does that.
Can we ask for a female caregiver?
Yes. Ask at the assessment and it becomes part of the match.
Is personal care available for just a few hours a week?
