Ten kinds of home care
Most families start with one and add another later. If you are not sure which fits, say what is happening at home and we will tell you.
More than one in four Auburn residents is 65 or over, the oldest community we serve and the furthest from our office. Auburn ages in place on hillsides, in houses people have owned for decades.
Auburn and Lincoln both report 27.0 percent of residents aged 65 or over, which is the highest share in our service area, and they could not have arrived there more differently. Lincoln's comes from one enormous purpose-built development. Auburn's is diffuse: people who bought a house in the foothills decades ago and never left. The median resident here is 47.5 years old, against 38.5 across the Sacramento metro.
That distinction is not academic, because it decides what the care looks like. There is no 55-plus community to organize around, no clubhouse noticeboard, no neighbor two doors down going through the same thing. Auburn families arrange care one household at a time, often for a parent who has been in the same house since before the town had a supermarket, and who regards leaving it as out of the question. We agree with them, which is the whole point of what we do.
The town sits at 1,227 feet in the northern Sierra foothills, about 800 feet above the American River confluence. Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital on Education Street is the only acute-care hospital in town, with 64 beds and a basic emergency room; anything higher-acuity goes down to Sutter Roseville. Auburn is about thirty miles from our office, the furthest city we serve, which is exactly why we match caregivers who already live up there.
Kaiser's Auburn presence is an outpatient clinic on Professional Drive, not a hospital. Most first calls come the day after a discharge, so call while it is still being planned rather than after everyone is home.

Read moreThere is a published median rate for this whole metro area, and it is the honest starting point for a conversation about money. Our guide to what home care costs across the Sacramento region gives that figure, explains the assumption buried in the monthly version of it, and runs the arithmetic at the amounts of care families actually buy.
If the question is who pays rather than how much, how families pay for home care in Placer County covers what Medicare will and will not cover, how Medi-Cal's IHSS program works, and what VA Aid and Attendance is worth.

Free, and no obligation. We look at the routine and the layout, then put a plan and a clear cost in writing before anything begins.
Matched on skills and on temperament, and introduced before care starts. A second familiar face is kept ready for vacation and sick days.

Guiding Souls Home Care matches caregivers who already live in the Auburn area rather than dispatching from Sacramento, and we will tell you honestly on the call what we can cover and when. Call (916) 229-8120. A schedule we cannot keep is worse for you than an honest no.
That is the situation Auburn is full of, and it is a reasonable position rather than a stubborn one. Our job is to make staying possible for as long as it safely can be, and to say so plainly when it stops being the right answer.
Sutter Auburn Faith Hospital on Education Street is the only acute-care hospital in town, with 64 beds. Higher-acuity cases go down to Sutter Roseville, which means the trip home is longer than families expect.
Placer County's largest city, and one of the few places in our area with two acute-care hospitals inside the city limits.
Home care in RosevilleTwenty-seven percent of Lincoln is 65 or older, and one 55-plus community of 6,783 homes sits inside the city.
