What we do

Home care services we provide in Sacramento

Two hours a week, or someone awake all night.

None of this is nursing. It is the part of the day your mother can no longer do alone: getting up, getting washed, getting fed, getting out. We write the plan after we have seen her house, and change it the week her needs change. If you are still working out whether it is time, our guide to the signs a parent needs help at home is the place to start.

Asked for most

24-hour and live-in care

Caregivers in shifts so someone is awake and present through the night, or one caregiver living in the home with a scheduled rest period. For a husband or wife who cannot manage the nights any more, this is usually the answer.

24-hour home care in Sacramento

Alzheimer's and dementia care

Familiar faces, a steady routine and patient redirection from caregivers trained for memory loss. The consistency is not a nicety here, it is the treatment: a new face every week undoes weeks of settling.

How it starts

How to start home care with Guiding Souls

You call, at any hour

Tell us what is happening at home. We ask who the care is for, what kind of help is needed and where you are. If we are not the right fit, we say so and point you somewhere better.

We come to the house

A free in-home assessment. We look at the routine, the layout and the real needs, then put a plan and a clear cost in writing before anything begins.

You meet your caregiver

Matched on skills and on temperament, and introduced before care starts. We hold that person on your schedule, and keep a second familiar face ready for vacation and sick days.

Questions families ask

Home care questions, answered

Six things families ask on the first call. If yours is not here, ask it on the phone: (916) 229-8120.

What does home care cost in Sacramento?

There is no single hourly rate, because two hours of companionship and an overnight awake shift are not the same job. What you get is a written number before you decide anything: we visit the house, agree the hours, and put the cost on paper. The visit costs nothing and you are not signing anything to have it. Our guide to what home care costs in Sacramento walks through how hourly, live-in and 24-hour care are priced.

Does Guiding Souls take long-term care insurance?

We accept CalPERS, Genworth and Mutual Life, along with a number of other long-term care plans. Call us and we will read your policy with you. See also how families pay for home care in California, including IHSS and VA benefits.

Will my parent have the same caregiver every visit?

That is the aim, and it is why we match carefully before care starts. People take vacation and get sick, so we keep a second familiar caregiver on your schedule rather than sending someone your parent has never met.

Does Guiding Souls answer the phone at night?

Yes. The office keeps appointment hours Monday to Friday, 9 AM to 5 PM, and the phone is answered by a person around the clock. Care itself can be staffed 24 hours a day.

How soon can home care start?

It depends on the hours you need and on finding the right match. Call and we will tell you honestly what we can staff and when, rather than promising a date we cannot keep.

What is non-medical home care?

Help with daily life at home: bathing, dressing, meals, medication reminders, company, errands and supervision. We do not provide skilled nursing, wound care or therapy. If your family needs those, we will tell you who does. Our guide to how families pay for home care in California sets out where the clinical kind stops and this kind starts.

Tell us what is happening at home

One call, at any hour, and a free visit before anything is decided. No contract, and a caregiver only once the match is right.
