What home care in Rancho Cordova actually looks like

Rancho Cordova is the youngest city we serve, with a median age of 35.6 against Folsom's 41.4 next door. That does not mean fewer older adults; it means they are less visible, more scattered, and more likely to be the one person on a street of young families who needs help. Isolation is a bigger part of the picture here than it is in Carmichael or Fair Oaks.

The veteran story is the other defining fact, and it is a real one rather than a marketing angle. The Sacramento VA Medical Center is an 81-bed facility with a 24-hour emergency department at Mather, on the former Air Force base immediately next to the city, and Mather Veterans Village on Bleckley Street is permanent supportive housing built with Mercy Housing California and the city, so veteran households are concentrated on this side of the city. Veterans have benefit routes to pay for care that other families do not.

There is no acute-care hospital inside the city limits, so admissions go to Sacramento, Carmichael, Mather or Folsom. What the city does have is Casa Coloma Health Care Center on Coloma Road, a 138-bed nursing facility, which is a real and regular source of people coming home.

What home care costs around Rancho Cordova

There is a published median rate for this whole metro area, and it is the honest starting point for a conversation about money. Our guide to what home care costs across the Sacramento region gives that figure, explains the assumption buried in the monthly version of it, and runs the arithmetic at the amounts of care families actually buy.

If the question is who pays rather than how much, how families pay for home care in Sacramento County covers what Medicare will and will not cover, how Medi-Cal's IHSS program works, and what VA Aid and Attendance is worth.

My father is a veteran. Does that change how we pay for home care?

It can. Veterans and surviving spouses may have benefit routes that other families do not, and Rancho Cordova has a concentration of veterans because of Mather. Ask on the call, and see our guide to how families pay for home care in California.

Is Rancho Cordova close to your office?

It is the quickest run of the ten, about seven miles and roughly ten minutes from the Guiding Souls Home Care office at 3626 Fair Oaks Blvd, Suite 100, Sacramento. In practice that means more flexibility on scheduling in Rancho Cordova than almost anywhere else in our area. Call (916) 229-8120 and we will tell you what the week could look like.

There is no hospital in the city. Where would my parent be discharged from?

Usually the VA at Mather, Mercy San Juan in Carmichael, or one of the Sacramento hospitals. Casa Coloma on Coloma Road is a nursing facility inside the city and is another common route home.
